Wine description for Pouilly-Vinzelles Climat “Les Quarts” Cuvée Millerandée Zen AOC 2023 1500ml Magnum by La Soufrandière
- Colour & appearance
- Intense golden yellow, radiant and clear – a wine that reveals its concentration right from the glass.
- Nose
- It offers a bouquet worthy of a great Côte d’Or: citrus, pome fruit, subtle saline notes and a hint of verbena merge into a remarkably serene, balanced ensemble. Nothing dominates; everything is part of a finely woven whole – pristine fruit in profound composure.
- Palate
- A seamless transition from the nose: creamy texture, supported by powdery-fine phenolics and ripe, vibrant acidity. Incredibly juicy without any excess weight, with rich extract and remarkable energy. A Mâconnais Chardonnay that effortlessly looks to higher spheres.
- Finish
- Long, cool and slightly austere on the finish – saline and precise, with persistent length that invites the next sip.
- Terroir & origin
- The roughly two-hectare plot of Les Quarts in Vinzelles ranks among the finest vineyard sites in the southern Mâconnais. Rooted in living clay-limestone soils of the Bajocian stage with siliceous crystals, vines aged between 48 and 80 years thrive here on a southeast-facing slope at around 230 metres. Domaine La Soufrandière, founded in 1947 by Jules Bret and run since 2000 by brothers Jean-Philippe and Jean-Guillaume, farms biodynamically – certified organic since 2003 and Demeter-certified since 2006.
- Grape variety & vinification
- Pure Chardonnay from biodynamic viticulture, hand-harvested with selective picking and pressed as whole bunches. Spontaneous fermentation, 17 months on the lees, partly in stainless steel and partly in used barriques. In accordance with the ZEN philosophy, no sulphur is added during fermentation or maturation – only a minimal dose at unfiltered bottling.
- Food recommendations
- An elegant everyday wine to accompany pan-fried pike-perch, chicken in a lemon-thyme jus or risotto with white asparagus. Also a delight with mature Comté or a simple goat’s cheese.
- Special features
- The Cuvée Millerandée comes from small-berried, millerandage-affected grapes – little juice but all the more concentration. The magnum format promises particularly slow, harmonious development. A quiet, profound wine without any showmanship – Mâconnais at Côte d’Or level.
